The opinions of the Church leaders are not public opinion, as they are not legally elected representatives of the people. It is another issue if some political leaders solicit the opinion of the Church leaders on some important social issues like divorce, abortion, single mother parenting etc. to enable the government to address these issues from the moral angle. Moral approach to political matters appears fine in principle. But often Church leaders have conflicting views amongst themselves on moral issues.
